What is the ‘Windows Feature Experience Pack’ on Windows 10?

People have been discussing a lot about the ‘Experience Pack’ on Windows 10. However, nobody is aware of its actual meaning. Windows 10 has a specification named ‘Experience,’ and the standard desktop versions call it ‘Windows Feature Experience pack.’

It might have intrigued you as well. Microsoft being itself hasn’t revealed much, but here’s everything we know about the same. So, read along to know more.

To check if you have the Experience Pack installed on your Windows 10 PC, follow the steps mentioned below:

  1. Click on the Start button and search for ‘Settings’ in the search bar.
  2. Open the ‘Settings’ menu. Locate the ‘System’ tab and click on the same.
  3. Scroll down in the next window and look for the ‘Windows Specifications’ section.

In case the ‘Experience’ option is available under the Windows Specifications section, it means that the pack is installed. Not only this, but it’ll also view the edition and version details of Windows 10 under the same section.

The primary question remains the same. According to Foley, the ‘Windows Feature Experience Pack’ is one of all the ‘Features on Demand.’ For instance, Microsoft Paint is also a Feature on Demand.

The feature is installed on Windows 10 by default, and as advised by Microsoft, these packs shouldn’t be removed from a PC as it includes features critical to Windows functionality.

Furthermore, the pack also includes features like a ‘Snipping tool’ used to take screenshots of the screen. Foley also said that these features are a part of the pack that comes preinstalled, rather than being a part of the base version of Windows 10. Not only this, but Microsoft is likely to bring more features to the pack.

If you want to take a look at the features that are listed under ‘features on-demand,’ follow the steps mentioned below:

  1. Launch the ‘Settings’ app on your PC.
  2. Locate the ‘Apps’ tab from the menu and click on the same.
  3. Select the ‘Apps & Features’ option from the left toolbar in the next window.
  4.  Click on the ‘Optional Features’ option.

Another question that is asked by most of the people is, why does the pack exist? What’s the purpose, and why are these features specifically added?

Well, Microsoft hasn’t revealed yet, but we have a little idea over the same. If you’ve looked a little closer, you must have noticed that Microsoft has separate packs: ‘Windows Feature Experience Pack’ and ‘Windows 10X Feature Experience Pack.’ Thus, it suggests two different things.

According to the reports, Microsoft is working on Windows 10X that was supposed to be a design for dual-screen devices. However, now it’s going to be a modern version of Windows. Thus, their versions will share a similar operating system but a different ‘Feature Experience Pack.’ In simpler words, it could also help in the advancement of Microsoft’s Windows Core OS goals.

As of now, there seems nothing important about the ‘Experience’ line in the Settings app. Also, Windows Feature Experience means nothing for now. Thus, it can be a part of the experiment on the development process of something huge in the near future. It would be helpful if Microsoft comes forward and reveals a little more about the Experience Packs.
