If you're an article writer, there are a number of things you'll want to know before starting to write. There are five core things you must know and practice before you even start working. Here are the essentials.
1. Make sure you've been trained properly.
Nothing gets a person more excited than starting to write and
seeing their own articles come out. Whether that's through writing programs or
just seeing other people's articles for free and taking a lot of pleasure in
it, you're going to start thinking that this is how you should write. That's
the magic behind the whole process. One thing I've noticed is that people's
first publications are very different from their later ones.
A first publication you write is a work of a passion, a nice side project that comes up from nowhere. Maybe you got into a specific subject or hobby that didn't really interest you before but through writing, something else has popped into your mind. Your good-old originality found after years of not applying yourself or learning from others. That's a perfect idea for afirst-time writer.
Unfortunately, not all people are cut out for that type of
writing and writing is more of a job than it should be. A lot of people will
have better luck taking what they've learned from studying the local library
and applying the information they've learned to writing. Don't be discouraged
if this happens.
2. Get used to rejection.
This part is a little scary because at the end of the day,
you're not going to get the likes and positive feedbacks that you'll get in
other parts of your life. This is the meat of writing and nothing is going to
cure it for you. Here's the thing. As a writer, you're never going to get the
green light to show your writing skills unless you push through the whole
process and put in the effort and time. This isn't going to be the hardest part
of writing and you're going to be surprised by how much easier it becomes the
more you push yourself and try to write consistently.
If you keep getting rejection letters, then you'll need to find
a lot of other ways to make it for yourself and to find a way to see it to the
other side. This is a lot of work and a lot of time, but the rewards will be
well worth it. Even though rejection letters aren't very popular to be getting,
if you fight hard enough for what you really want, you're going to get it. Just
know that not everyone is going to be impressed by your writing, at least not
in the beginning. The most important thing for a writer to know is that
rejection is an inevitable part of the process. You need to have a plan for how
you're going to come back and make it work for you and what the next round of
rejection letters will say. After that, you might want to try opening those
rejection letters in a completely different way.
3. Don't over-reach for attention.
This is quite a few things to think about, but one thing you
should know is that nobody wants to read an entire essay. I personally don't
read essays, but I have one writer that does and she knows quite a few people.
Many times, she's like, "Why am I getting this kind of feedback and not my
friend, who is so much better than I am?" This makes one thing clear—none
of the people looking to read you don't care what you're writing about.
They don't even have to look at the piece itself. There's no
such thing as writing without comments. If you're going to get comments, make
sure it's positive comments. Why do this? Because a positive comment sets you
up for an 'usability-first' experience. That's the best format and the most
you're going to get. If you have something you want to correct, then you have
to write that to you like a professional. It might seem silly to write that
way, but it works. That's exactly what you're going to be doing and that's the
reason why we need some writing programs. It's not on our short list but you
