The Los Angeles County sheriff is refusing to enforce COVID-19 vaccination requirement on his staff. The mandate was fully in effect on Friday, claiming that he'd immediately lose a significant portion of his staff in the event of a refusal.
"I'm not trying to force anyone to get vaccinated," Sheriff Alex Villanueva stated in the Facebook live Q&A session on Thursday. "The subject has become so polarized that there are whole classes of employees who would prefer to lose their jobs and be laid off, rather than getting vaccinations, so I don't want to put myself in a position of losing five percent of my workforce in one day."

Villanueva has been antagonistic to mask mandates, also supervises the most powerful sheriff's office in the nation, with more than 18,000 employees. The announcement was made following Los Angeles city officials have approved a strict mandate that demands proof of vaccination for all employees as well as patrons of restaurants, bars, sporting venues , and other public places beginning in November. 4.
Villanueva has also mentioned budget cuts as a reason for his decision in arguing that "we need to select and decide" which county-mandated regulations to follow. the Villanueva's $3.6 billion budget for 2021-2022 by 4percent.
There appears to be the possibility of a resistance to vaccines in Los Angeles law enforcement to adhere to the policy adopted in August that requires all county employees to be vaccine-vaccinated against the disease. For instance, last month Six Los Angeles Police Department officers filed a lawsuit against the City's version of the law.
Despite Villanueva's objections it's clear that enforcing mandated vaccinations causes people who are wary of vaccination to make a change in their mind and avoid losing their jobs. The rates of vaccination among LAPD officers have increased to at minimum 65percent after the announcement of an obligation according to the chief of the police this week. This is about 20% more than the numbers that were reported in the middle of September. read more......
