(CNN) A SWAT team from Georgia detained a man who was accused of fatally shooting a police officer aged 26 who was on his first shift who was working his first shift, who was working his first shift, Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced the news on Sunday.
Damien Ferguson, 43, was arrested without incident just a few hours after the fatal shooting of Officer Dylan Harrison. He was accused of murder in relation to the shooting, as well as the aggravated stalking charge in connection with a separate domestic matter as per the GBI. Ferguson is also identified as Luke Ferguson, the GBI confirmed.
"Today just before 22:30 p.m. Damien Anthony Ferguson was arrested as a result of an operation to execute a warrant for search at his home at Alamo, GA," stated GBI spokesperson Natalie Ammons.
Ferguson was arrested less than a mile from the spot the spot where Harrison was killed within Alamo, Georgia, the state's Department of Public Safetysaid on Facebook and Twitter.
Harrison 26 year old Harrison was on his first shift in the department when the fatal shooting occurred at the Alamo Police Department in Wheeler County early on Saturday morning. He is survived by his wife and a child who is just 6 months old.
Harrison was slain "ambush-style" at in the Alamo Police Department after a well-known acquaintance with Damien Ferguson got into an fight with Harrison. The man who was not identified was subdued and eventually arrested in the GBI statement reads.
