Palm Beach Police Ball Will Enrich Trump, Whose Jan. 6 Mob Attacked Police Officers

Trump's incitement led to five officers dead but the charity is going ahead with an event that will give Trump money.

The Palm Beach Police and Fire Foundation is planning a fund-raising event held at Mar-a-Lago this winter. It is likely to put about a quarter million dollars in Donald Trump's cash registers despite the ex-president's incitement to his Jan. 6 attack at the Capitol which resulted in the death five officers, and the injuries of 140 others.

The charity has not disclosed the amount it will be paying Trump's non-profit South Florida club to host the Jan. 22nd, 2022 "Policemen's and Firefighters Ball." Tax returns filed with the IRS however, reveal that it received $135,012 in 2020 and the amount was $214,760 for the year 2019 as well as $262,261 for 2018 in rental fees for facilities for the identical event during those years. All of these were hosted at Mar-a-Lago.

A spokesperson from the Palm Beach Police Department said they were not involved in deciding the location. "I can't really give a statement on whether this is appropriate and/or not" explained Capt. Will Rothrock. "The department is not apolitical ... I'm not able to comment on the past president's actions."

An Capitol Police officer who was beat with a flagpole from Trump supporters and saw his hand cut open however, found the idea of paying Trump offended.

"Unfortunately there are many individuals, including elected leaders and those with authority, such as police officers, who claim they support law and order' and the rule of law but they do not care about what happened on January 6, 2021." stated Sgt. Aquilino Gonell. "In my view, they must seek out a new option and not back an individual who has violated his swearing in his office and the Constitution in failing to take action to defend the Constitution from the partisans."

Maureen O'Sullivan, a foundation spokeswoman, told the media that the foundation does not have a position in any way regarding Trump. "The foundation does not have a political agenda," she said.

The group signed a long-term agreement with Mar-a-Lago which guarantees an earlier price than what it could get and also she said that Palm Beach does not have many venues that could organize an event that normally has 700 guests. "To shut off the event to it could cost the foundation funds," she said.

Trump has not attended an event to honor Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who died just hours after being attacked. Trump has not publicly acknowledged the victims who were injured on the morning of Jan. 6 and those who took their own lives afterward.

Instead he has praised the crowd he invited to Washington, D.C., the day before to intimidate his Vice President and Congress into reversing the results of the election he lost in order to stay in office. "The most significant insurrection occurred on the 3rd November and the day of the Presidential Election, not on the 6th of January, that was the day of protesting against the Fake Election results," said the statement released on Wednesday. read more....
