LGBTQ Advocates Slam Dave Chappelle’s Netflix Special Over Transphobic Comments

The comedian supported J.K. Rowling’s anti-trans views and said “gender is a fact” in his new special “The Closer.”

Dave Chappelle is getting accused of racism for the second time for his homophobic jokes on his most recent Netflix comedy series.

The National Black Justice Coalition, an advocacy group for civil rights has issued a statement on Wednesday urging streaming services to pull the program called "The The Closer."

"With 2021 set to be the most deadly year for transgender transgender people across the United States -- the majority of them are Black transgender individuals -- Netflix ought to know better. The perpetuation of transphobia leads to violence," David Johns, the group's executive director, stated in the release, according to CNN. "Netflix should remove The Closer from its platform and immediately apologize to the transgender community."

The group also shared an official statement on Instagram:

The show, which debuted on Tuesday, features derogatory jokes regarding the LGBTQ community, and defends the racist remarks that were made by "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling and rapper DaBaby.

Chappelle and Netflix haven't responded to requests for comments from HuffPost.

"They have cancelled J.K. Rowling -- my God," Chapelle says in his show, according to numerous accounts and videos which can be found on the internet.

He continued:

"Effectually she declared gender an actual fact, and the trans community was furious for a while, and they began calling her a"TERF,"" Chappelle said, referring to the acronym "trans-exclusionary radical feminists" who's views on gender are viewed as anti-trans.
