Woman charged after allegedly starving her boyfriend's 7-year-old son to death

A childcare provider in New York was charged with second-degree murder Friday after prosecutors alleged that she had starved her boyfriend's 7-year-old son to death earlier this year.

(CNN) An employee of a childcare center located in New York was charged with second-degree murder, on Friday. The prosecutors claim that she had the son of her boyfriend's to death earlier in the year.

Leticia Bravo 39-year-old Leticia Bravo could face 25 years or more in prison for the second degree killing of Peter Cuacuas, according to an declaration by the Orange County District Attorney's Office. Bravo was also charged with manslaughter , both in the first and second degree.



      Arturo Cuacuas, Peter's father and Bravo's friend was indicted for murder in a criminally negligent manner this week, the office of the DA announced.
        On the 10th of February, Bravo brought Peter's lifeless body to St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh, New York, in which the boy was declared dead, the report stated. A postmortem examination conducted by the Orange County Medical Examiner's Office discovered that Peter was 37 pounds overweight at the moment of his death. was a victim of malnutrition.
          Bravo is alleged to have kept Peter locked in a room "behind the door which was closed from the outside" According to office of the DA. The prosecution believes that Peter was a guest at Bravo at her residence in Newburgh each day, excluding Saturdays, on which Bravo and Peter would be with Cuacuas at Cuacuas's apartment.

          Bravo, who was an childcare provider, was Peter's primary caregiver in the school year, which started in September of 2020. However, Peter did not log on to attend school online after January 2021 , despite numerous discussions between Peter's school officials and teachers with Bravo in the report.

          "It is unimaginable that anyone could accept the responsibility of taking care of children and then not give this child the essential necessities to live," District Attorney David Hoovler stated. "It is shocking to think that the child was kept from view from school officials before his death."
            CNN has been in contact with an attorney who represents Bravo and also called Cuacuas to inquire about their comments.

            Bravo was detained at the request of City of Newburgh Police Department and is currently in custody at the Orange County Jail pending bail as per the office of the DA. The next court date is scheduled for the 26th of October.
